JusticeOS

A secure digital platform concept for connecting workflows across law enforcement, courts and correctional institutions.

This case study is an illustrative concept demonstrating the kind of system SentinelCore designs. It does not represent completed client work.

Overview

JusticeOS is a concept for a unified case-management layer that lets separate justice-sector institutions track a case as it moves between agencies, without merging their underlying data ownership.

Problem

Cases moving between police, courts and correctional institutions are often tracked in disconnected systems, or on paper, making status difficult to verify and handoffs slow and error-prone.

Objectives

  • Give each institution visibility into shared case status without exposing internal records
  • Preserve a verifiable chain of custody as a case moves between agencies
  • Support role-based access reflecting each institution's authority
  • Provide an audit trail suitable for oversight review

Solution

A federated case-record model where each institution owns its own data, exposed to other institutions only through defined, permissioned views — supported by a shared case timeline and status ledger.

Key Features

  • Cross-institution case timeline
  • Role-based, per-institution access control
  • Immutable audit logging of every status change
  • Document and evidence reference linking
  • Configurable notification rules for case handoffs

Architecture

A central case-index service coordinates status and handoff events, while each institution retains its own system of record; access is mediated through scoped, auditable API permissions rather than shared database access.

Challenges

The core design challenge is balancing cross-institution visibility with each agency's legal and operational independence over its own records — solved through a permissioned view model rather than data centralization.

Results & Outcomes

As a concept, JusticeOS demonstrates an architecture pattern for multi-institution systems; outcomes will be documented here once implemented for a specific client.
